Creating a MMORPG for Work Meetings

As a small group, look at videos of Maple Story and WoW to see what the environments and avatars are like.

Then imagine you are designing an MMO for a meeting setup where co-workers come in to a meeting space in a MMO's VW and conduct their meeting OR have a corporate team building event. Co-workers have different project roles (e.g.. designer, developer, manager)

1. Decide on an environment.

Think about what the meeting space look like and what type of virtual world setup would you create? Maple Story? WoW? SL? Base your answers on the user preferences reported in the readings and how you want to change or enforce norms within the game.

2. Decide on avatars.

What avatar design features would you provide?

  • ages
  • multiple (alts) vs. single characters
  • body characteristics
  • give several race possibilities
  • give several clothing possibilities
  • give several weapon possibilities
  • give several player-attribute possibilities (eg. magic)

Think about workplace hierarchy, workplace activities, and person-person interactions.

3. Decide on learning.

What type of learning would you provide people so they can understand how to participate in the space? Forums, conversations, inline help, etc.
